The core teachings, fairly stated from the oldest texts, with the Bible's answer beside each one.

The four noble truths

Suffering, its origin in craving, its cessation, and the path. The heart of the Buddha's first sermon, and where the Bible's diagnosis differs.

The noble eightfold path

Right view, purpose, speech, action, livelihood, effort, mindfulness and immersion: the Buddhist way to end suffering, and why a path is not enough.

Impermanence, suffering, not-self

The three marks of existence: everything conditioned changes, cannot satisfy, and has no self. The Bible agrees about the first, and answers the other two with God.

Karma and rebirth

Intentional deeds bear fruit in this life and the next, through a round of rebirth with no known beginning. What the texts say, and why the Bible says once, then grace.

Nirvana

Extinguishment: the ending of greed, hate and delusion, and release from rebirth. What it means in the texts, and how it differs from eternal life.

The three refuges

A Buddhist takes refuge in the Buddha, the Teaching and the Sangha. The Bible invites us to take refuge in God himself.

Meditation and mindfulness

Buddhist meditation trains attention to see impermanence and not-self. Christian meditation fills the mind with God's word. The difference is the object.

Welcome to BuddhistTok

BuddhistTok tests what Buddhism teaches (karma, rebirth, no-self, nirvana, no Creator) against the Bible, quoting the Buddhist texts word for word, and shows why Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.
